Mission Moment

image003From a TNT email update:

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of LLS supporter and active TNT participant and honoree, Laura Warren.  Laura was an honoree for every Team In Training sport we have offered at LLS – including Adventure Race!  She completed her first TNT event, the Honolulu Marathon, in 1997 and continued to participate with TNT in some capacity in every year following.  She was passionate about the Hike Team and recently participated in the Red Rock Hike in Las Vegas in April.   She was also instrumental in the successful campaigns of two Man & Woman of the Year Winners, Carolyn Balling and Mark Zafra, and hosted “homebrew fests” for both.

Laura was diagnosed as a teenager with Hodgkin’s disease and experienced a recurrence five years after her initial diagnosis.  Laura passed due to complications with breast cancer, her second time with the disease, which may have been a result of treatment she received as a teenager with lymphoma.  She is often described as a warrior and pillar of strength by those who know her.  In her life, she has lived more years with cancer than without, yet she hasn’t uttered a single complaint or let cancer stop her from living life to the fullest.  This year, she traveled Europe and earned her Master’s degree in biochemistry while undergoing chemotherapy.  She leaves behind her husband, cats, and hundreds of LLS supporters.

We are so grateful for the heart and spirit of Laura. Please know that your fundraising efforts here every day are helping to remember her and to ensure we have better, safer therapies in the future.

P.S. Don’t forget to donate to the cause: http://pages.teamintraining.org/gba/nikesf14/ashbo
